Emily Novak, MS, CCC-SLP, TSSLD

Director of Curriculum Design and Related Services

As Director of Curriculum Design and Related Services, Emily brings extensive clinical expertise and institutional knowledge to her role. Building rapport with students and their families, maintaining a flexible and welcoming learning environment, and cultivating a collaborative team approach are at the core of Emily’s practice. She believes that connecting with each child and understanding what motivates them is instrumental in bringing about the most effective results. A core component of Emily’s day-to-day work involves bridging the work of the therapy and education teams, using an interdisciplinary approach that promotes collaboration and the integration of related services into learning and daily life.

When she first began at Tribeca Prep, Emily served as a speech-language pathologist (SLP) on the Related Service team. She addressed speech and language skills that are critical to academic and social success on a daily basis, including executive functioning, reading comprehension, written expression, vocabulary building, articulation, social communication, and play. Prior to joining the Tribeca Prep team, Emily worked closely with general education classroom teachers in Brooklyn-based charter schools to support differentiated learning in the classroom, utilized curriculum-based materials to support the development of her student’s expressive and receptive language skills, and focused on building her students’ confidence in their abilities to succeed. Emily received her Master of Science in Communication Disorders from Emerson College, holds certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and New York State licensure in speech-language pathology, and obtained New York State Teacher Certification in Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD). Prior to her graduate studies, Emily attended the University of Connecticut and earned a B.A. in English and Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences with a minor in psychology

After seeing her siblings attend years of speech therapy in private and school settings, Emily was motivated to pursue a career in the field of special education. Seeing students’ faces light up as they experience successes, big or small, is why she continues to love this field. Students know that Emily absolutely loves her dog, Rocky, and will incorporate him into learning activities whenever possible! She also enjoys using her background in English and creative writing to think of fun, imaginative writing activities for students.
